PURPOSE:To provide the title calcination process so designed that when a ceramic honeycomb structure is to be calcined in a furnace, the temperatures of both the interior and outer side of the structure are detected by a temperature detecting means and, based on the measurements obtained, the combustion of a burner is controlled, thereby preventing crack development and ensuring the title structure of uniform fine pore size to be obtained. CONSTITUTION:Firstly, ceramic raw material powder (e.g., kaolin, alumina) is incorporated with a forming aid (e.g., methyl cellulose) to carry out forming. Thence, the resultant formed product 10 is placed on a shelf 13 within a calcination furnace 11 and heated with a burner 14 in a specified atmosphere to carry out calcination. In the above operation, two thermocouples 17 are installed on the interior and outer side of the ceramic honeycomb structure 10 respectively, to detect the respective temperatures at said interior and outer side. The ceramic honeycomb structure 10 is then calcined while controlling the combustion of a burner 14 based on the detected temperatures determined above. |
