PURPOSE:To eliminate problems, such as the deterioration of the capacity of an electric double layer capacitor due to the decomposition of the solvent of an electrolyte and an increase in its internal resistance due to generation of gas, and to use it under a high temperature conditions for a long period of time by employing a specific solvent in the electrolyte of the capacitor. CONSTITUTION:Polar electrodes 1, 2 are disposed through a separator 3 in a can 5 made of the cap 4 and packing 6 of an electric double layer capacitor. A solvent represented by a formula 1 is employed as the solvent of the electrolyte of the capacitor. In the formula I, R is hydrogen component or 1-8C alkyl group. The solvent is of mixture solvent of at least one type selected from sulfolane, 3-methylsulfolane and 2,4-dimethylesulfolane and the solvent represented by the formula I. The content ratio of the formula I in the mixture solvent is 10-80vol.%. The electrolyte eliminates various problems due to the decomposition of the solvent by the application of the voltage, and it can be used under a high temperature conditions for a long period of time. |
