PURPOSE:To achieve discharge and light emission all over the lamp, by electrically connecting one end of a conductor to the higher potential side of an induction coil and disposing the other end thereof adjacent the external wall of the lamp at a position in the farther side from the induction coil. CONSTITUTION:In the lower region of a lamp 8, discharge is induced by a magnetic field produced by an induction coil 11. On the other hand, in the upper region of the lamp 8, discharge is caused by disposing the distal end 16a of a newly provided conductor 16 adjacent the vicinity of upper end portion of the lamp 8. This discharge is caused by a potential difference between the distal end 16a of the conductor 16 connected to the higher potential side 11a of the induction coil 11 and the lower potential side 11b of the induction coil 11. Even when the high frequency energy supplied from the induction coil 11 to the lamp 8 via an insulating plate 14 is not sufficient to cause discharge in the whole region of the lamp 8, light emission can thus be caused in the whole region of the lamp 8. |
