The specially shaped camshaft gearwheel (3), apart from the rear compensator (4), also works in conjunction with a centrifugal coupling (6) combined with a free wheel (5). This combination alters the opening time of a valve (9), using in particular the variable characteristics of the rear compensator. The valve opening time alteration is dependent upon the different drive conditions of the engine. - The rear compensator characteristics are varied by the degree of locking of the centrifugal coupling being automatically altered dependent upon the speed of the engine. The compensator is provided with an elastic damping plate (13). |
