PURPOSE: To automatically and speedily obtain the desired contrast of a sample image through a filtering device by providing a memory or the like storing a program for optimizing the contrast of the sample image. CONSTITUTION: On a movable table 2, a control sample 5 is placed for trying to provide an image based on a reflection coefficient, for example, and between a microscope 4 and a light source 7, a filtering device 8 is provided on the track of a light beam 9. Then, the sample 5 is irradiated through the device 8, the beam reflected on the sample 5 is passed through a mirror 4 and the image of the sample 5 is outputted, converted into a video signal by a sensor 10, sent to a computer 11 and stored in a memory 12. In this case, the memory 12 stores the program by which the computer 11 can optimize the contrast of image of the sample 5 by selecting a function F(λ) of the device 8 when performing the control of sample. Therefore, the desired contrast can automatically and speedily be obtained through a spectometer 13, etc.
