Protection for signs from vandalism by application of paint is provided by covering the sign with a layer of film resistant to solvents for the removal of paints and pref. generally smooth and presenting a nonadherant surface to superficial contamination, and also serving as a barrier to UV light. Pref. comprises a siliconised film based on polyvinyl fluoride, pref. about 25 micron thick and secured to the supporting sign by a transaprent adhesive layer typically 30 micron thick. USE - Esp. for treatment of roadside warning signs of sheet metal having painted surfaces and opt. supporting symbols or strips of reflective material. Reduces obliteration by airborne or splashed dirt, or painted graffiti, by facilitating removal by rain, or by cleaning using water or solvents as necesssary.
