Known thermal printers have a thermal print head in which heating elements are arranged in a row parallel to the end edge of the thermal print head for printing a recording medium which can be transported along the thermal print head with interposition of a heat-sensitive ink carrier. In order to prevent the ink of the ink carrier (3) which has been melted on by the heating elements (6) becoming hard again due to cooling prior to separation of the ink carrier (3) from the recording medium (2), a reheating device (11), having a deflection edge (17) formed parallel to the row of heating elements (6) for the ink carrier (3), is arranged on the thermal print head (5) in the region of its end edge (8). <IMAGE>
