PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a switching part, to decrease the loss of connection, and to improve long-period reliability by making end surfaces of optical fibers to abut directly on each other and connecting them by using none of a ferrule, a split sleeve, a lens, a prism, etc. CONSTITUTION:A moving holder 12 is moved by a fiber driving part so that the end surface of one of optical fibers 41 to be selected mounted on a fiber fixation holder 11 faces the end surface of one selecting optical fiber 42 mounted on the fiber moving holder 12; while the level of back scattered light is monitored from the measurement point of the preset optical fiber 41 to be selected which is measured by a light pulse testing device 20, the fiber moving holder 12 is adjusted finely and a switch control part 30 detects the coincidence point of the optical axis between both optical fibers according to the measure value of the light pulse testing device 20 which varies as a result. The fiber moving holder 12 is moved by a driving part in a Z direction from the detected optical axis coincidence point to make both optical fiber end surfaces abut on each other. Consequently, connections are switched with low loss, the package density of optical fibers is improved, and the long-period reliability is increased. |
