PURPOSE:To provide a cariostatic agent composed solely of a natural essential oil or a natural essential oil and other cariostatic agent, applicable continuously for a long period because of high safety and the lack of the side effects in contrast with antibiotic substances, and exhibiting excellent cariostatic effect at an extremely small dose. CONSTITUTION:The objective cariostatic agent is composed solely of a natural essential oil such as cedar oil, oil of hiba arborvitae, etc. or a mixture of a natural essential oil and other cariostatic component such as the active component of a natural essential oil such as hinokitiol, cinnamaldehyde, etc., synthetic flavor such as cresyl acetate, cyclamen aldehyde, etc., carboxylic acid such as capric acid, lauric acid, etc. and/or a lactone such as d-decalactone, d-dodecalactone, etc. The cariostatic agent is composed of highly safe flavor components which are used widely in food industry, and is effective to inhibit the growth of mutans bacteria at an extremely low concentration, and accordingly, it can be used as a flavoring agent for gargle or troche to impart cariostatic effect. |
