<p>1279662 Log debarking apparatus MORBARK INDUSTRIES Inc 5 Nov 1969 [5 Nov 1968] 54239/69 Heading B5L Log debarking apparatus comprises a debarking member 5 rotatable about an axis 6 and having bark cutting members 8, and a pair of log-turning members 25, 53 having loggripping non-bark removing torque transmitting parts 27, 54. Each member 25, 53 is rotatable about its own axis which is inclined to the axis 6, and means are provided for rotating the members 25, 53 in directions b, c to spiral the log axially past the member 5, and for rotating the members 5 in a direction to oppose the rotation of the log imparted by members 25, 53, means are also provided for mounting the members 25, 53 for movement towards or away from the member 5, and means responsive to the latter movement to move the members 25, 53 to vary the relative inclination of their axes. In the apparatus described the members 25, 53 are mounted in carriers 24, 51 respectively which in turn are swivellably mounted on yokes 15, 37 respectively, each of which yokes is pivotally mounted on the machine frame 1. Link work is provided between the yokes 15, 37 which causes them to approach or move away from the member 5 together. Further link work is provided on each yoke which causes the carrier 24, 51 to swivel as the yokes move, the arrangement being such that the inclination of the axes of the turning members to the axis of the member 5 is increased as the members 25, 53 approach such member. This arrangement ensures that a small diameter log is fed past the member 5 more quickly than a larger one. The yokes are urged towards a log on the member 5 by a pneumatic piston and cylinder device interconnecting the yoke 15 and the frame 1. This allows logs of the same or decreasing diameter to pass through the apparatus, but if it is desired to insert a larger log a valve must be operated manually which causes the yoke 15 to be moved by the piston and cylinder device away from the member 5. The members 25, 53 are driven by fluid motors 32, 59 which are connected in the same power circuit via valves. The valves are such that they cause the motors to exert constant torque and thus adjust the peripheral speeds of the members 25, 53 to the peripheral speed of a log which may vary due to an irregular cross-section.</p> |
