PURPOSE:To satisfactorily extract a vehicle without any influence of the change of weather and the shadow of a building by obtaining the difference between a previously registered background picture and an input picture, changing the quantity of the background picture to be updated by the input picture according to the value of the difference, and preparing an updated background picture having strong resistance to the change of brightness. CONSTITUTION:The difference between a previously stored background picture 4 and an input picture 1 as the object of processing is obtained, and a constant A is determined by a constant generating circuit 3 according to a prescribed relation from a different picture 2, the operation of AXf+(1-A)Xg is executed between an input picture (f) and a background picture (g), and the result of the executed operation is made into a new background picture. Consequently, the background picture can be prepared, which can follow the moderate change of the brightness. Thus, the influence of the change of the weather and the shadow of the building can be eliminated, and the vehicle can be extracted satisfactorily. |
