<p>In a method of cutting the top and root ends of onions pure rotary motion without translatory motion is imparted to each onion on a movable substrate. The onion is axis-oriented hereby, and then it is retained in this orientation while cutting of the top and root ends takes place. Also an apparatus for use in the performance of the method is provided. This apparatus contains onion rotating means (3), gripper means (10, 11) to grip and retain the onion in the axis-oriented position and cutting means (22, 23, 24) to remove the top and root ends of the onion.</p> |
