A collision device is proposed, in the case of which the bumper (10) can be extended forwards from the vehicle and absorbs energy in this position (11) in conjunction with an appropriate structure (12). The extension process is carried out either explosively by conversion into kinetic energy of potential energy stored in a system (20) or by means of conventional thrust mechanisms which are activated before a collision. In the latter case, initiation of the extension movement is triggered by the signals of a measuring and distance sensor (22). <IMAGE>
