The invention relates to an arc welding device having a current transformer which consists of two transformer elements 18, 19 and is connected on the primary side to a rectifier 2 via semiconductor switches 4, 5, 6, 7 which are pulsed at a mid-frequency by a control device 8, the electrical power which is fed into the welding electrode 15, 16 being varied by varying the width of the clock pulses I,II from the semiconductor switches 4, 5, 6, 7. Furthermore, the control device 8 has a disconnection device, by means of which one of the two clock pulses from the transformers 18, 19 can be continuously suppressed. This arrangement allows the drive range for the power fed to the welding electrode 15, 16 to be increased without it being necessary to shift the clock frequency to low values. <IMAGE>
