In a winding machine for winding a thread onto a bobbin, two bobbin spindles (5) are mounted on a bobbin turret (18). The bobbin spindles can be moved alternately into the operating position, with consequent loss-free change of thread from one bobbin to the other. A reversing device (41) is provided for this purpose. A sheet metal plate (39) which maintains the thread in a raised plane is applied to the reversing device, so that the thread continues to be wound onto the full bobbin even if the bobbin is changed. A second, stationary or axially mobile sheet metal plate (40) slides the thread in the region of the idler spool (10.2) into the catch plane by means of a thread catching slit.
