Stethoscopes have hitherto been used exclusively for auscultation, whereas biosignals such as ECG, PCG, various pulse curves, Korotkoff's sounds and the like are recorded with the aid of expensive recording instruments. The invention comprises a stethoscope which is provided with a variety of sensors and an electronic evaluator which combine the above-named aspects in one unit (see Fig. 1, summary presentation). During auscultation this device simultaneously records, evaluates and displays biosignals, and this leads to the doctor providing a precise diagnosis. It is possible to classify the sound phenomena as systole or diastole and to make objective statements about the frequency, volume and duration of sounds. Because of its low weight and small size the stethoscope with this accessory is predominantly suitable for preliminary examinations (e.g. home visits of the general practitioner) or for continuous clinical monitoring. <IMAGE>
