In a method of glass-moulding, sticking of glass to the hot iron mould surface is prevented by coating the iron with an oil-in-water emulsion comprising 5-20 parts by volume of water per volume of a graphite-containing concentrate comprising (a) 0À1-0À8 wt. per cent colloidal graphite, (b) 70-90 wt. per cent of a mixture of a high MW petroleum oil, e.g. bright stock, and a hydrocarbon solvent, said solvent accounting for 10-40% by wt. of said mixture, and (c) the balance of said graphite-containing concentrate being an emulsifying agent or a surfactant combination. The surfactant may comprise at 0.5 wt. per cent of each of (1) an alkoxylated material which is the reaction product of 2-30 moles of C 2- C 3 olefin oxide per mole of a C 8 -C 24 fatty acid partial ester of a C 3 -C 12 aliphatic polyhydric alcohol, a C 10 -C 20 fatty alcohol, a C 10 -C 20 fatty acid, a C 10 -C 20 aliphatic amine, a C 8 -C 12 alkylphenol or mixtures thereof, (2) a neutralized phosphosulphurized polyolefin or neutralized polyalkenyl succinic acid, and (3) a coupling agent e.g. water, cyclohexanol, a C 1 -C 4 alkyl cyclohexanol, a C 4 -C 8 tertiary alcohol, an alkylphenol, C 8 oxo alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, glycerol or mixtures thereof. Additional surfactants such as ethanolamines and petroleum sulphonates may also be present. Other optional additives include MoS 2 , BN, 2,6-ditertiary butyl 4-methyl phenol and trihydromethyl nitromethane. |
