A composite strand for transmitting an electrical signal comprises (a) a support strand contg. an elastic center thread and a non- extensible fiber helically wound around the thread to limit an extension of the thread, and (b) a signal transmitting strand helically overlaying the fiber. The signal transmitting strand has a length at least as long as the length of the fiber and a sufficient width such that when it is wound around the support strand the adjacent coils of the signal strand partly overlap in the axial direction when the composite strand is fully extended.
