At this time, the carbon molecular sieves or the like of the coarse particles of a grain size 1 to 7 mm and the carbon molecular sieves of the fine particles of a grain size 250 to 375μm or the inert materials, such as glass beads are packed into the adsorbent bed A in such a manner that the fine particles occupy 10 to 15% of the bed volume. The ratio of the smallest dimensions of the coarse particles and the largest dimensions of the fine particles is specified to the range between 5:1 to 15:1, by which the space in the bed is reduced and the pressure swing adsorption efficiency is improved.</p>
