MANUFACTURE OF OPTICAL COMPONENT AND OPTICAL COMPONENT BASE MATERIAL

PURPOSE:To mass-produce an optical component of uniform quality by integrating members which constitute the optical component lengthwise and then cutting and separating them by planes perpendicular to the lengthwise direction. CONSTITUTION:Members 22-24 which form an optical waveguide and peripheral members 25-27 which surround their peripheries are incorporated in a quartz glass pipe 21 in a rectangular tube shape so that the lengthwise direction of the members 22-27 is coincident with the lengthwise direction of the quartz glass pipe 21, thereby forming the optical component base material. Then the optical component base material is sliced at right angles to the lengthwise direction to form optical component base body elements 31c. Consequently, the optical component of uniform quality is easily mass-produced.
