[Also in Division F2] A metal ring having uniform corrugations parallel to its longitudinal axis, for use as the load-carrying element of a V-belt (see Division F2) may be formed by passing a sheet-metal strip between forming rolls while under tension and joining the ends by butt-welding or by overlapping the ends and welding, bonding, or riveting them together. Alternatively a jointless ring may be made by rolling an annular flat member 66 between rolls 71 to turn the major axis of the section through 90 degrees, or by reducing the thickness of a cylindrical thick ring (74) between rolls (77) (Figs. 6, 7, not shown), the resulting ring having corrugations formed between rolls 73, 74, Fig. 14. |
