Steroid heterosides prepd - usin acetobromosugar and silver salt - of a hydroxyacid

Steroid heterosides, some of which have a cardiotropic action, of formula (I), (where R is a 3-hydroxy steroid, R1 H or an aliphatic or aromatic acyl; R2 is H, Me, Et, CH2OR1 or CHOR1 or CHOR1. CH2OR1); are made from (III), R1 not being H, X being halogen, by reactn. with a steroid R. OH, R being 3-androstanyl, 3-preganyl, 3-spiranyl, 3-cardanyl or 3-bufanyl or their 4,5- or 5,6-dehydro derivs., in the presence of the Ag salt of an alpha-, beta- or gamma- hydroxy aliphatic /aromatic carboxylic cid and a low. m.wt. dialkyl ether solvent, and opt. by alkaline hydrolysis of acyl gps. This gives better yields than by using Ag2CO3 and can be applied to DELTA 4-3-hydroxy steroids.
