PURPOSE:To excellently tighten a caulking section and improve sealing performance by tightening a split mold until its inner diameter becomes smaller than the outer diameter of a battery can, holding the battery can in this state, and finally caulking the battery can. CONSTITUTION:A battery can 1 with a lid body 2 loaded on an aperture is put on a stand. When a caulking device that connects a caulking mold 4 to a split mold 5 by means of a spring 6 is let to descend and when the lower end of legs 7 is made to touch the top of the stand, the spring 6 is shrunk, and only the caulking mold 4 is let to descend further, the split mold 5 is closed by a collar 8, and the circumference of a section where the lid body 2 of the battery can 1 is loaded is held thereon. The caulking mold 4 is let to descend furthermore and the upper edge of the battery can 1 is gradually bent inside and pre-caulked in a tapered section that is tilted outside. This process is required because the edge cannot be bent one time. Then the said pre-caulked section is fully caulked by a flat caulking mold 4'. The battery can 1 is held at this final caulking stage by tightening the split mold 5 until the inner diameter (A) of a split mold 5' becoms slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the battery can 1. |
