<p>PURPOSE: To obtain a sizing composition capable of being applied to weaving or knitting yarns to impart excellent strength and excellent abrasion resistance to the weaving or knitting yarns by adding the composite product of a specific polymer resin with colloidal silica particles in an aqueous medium, wherein the silica particles are substantially sealed in the resin. CONSTITUTION: This sizing composition comprises the composite product of a polyester resin having a mol.wt. of 5,000-7,000 with colloidal silica having a particle diameter of 20-50μm, wherein the silica particles are substantially sealed in the resin. When the yarns for a woven or knitted fabric are sized with the composition, the strength and abrasion resistance of the yarns in the woven or knitted fabric are reinforced and improved. Since the composition can easily be removed in a scouring process, the composition is extremely effective as a sizing agent. The polyester resin is produced from isophthalic acid, a glycol and trimellitic anhydride.</p> |
