Device intended to signal to a deep sea diver that it is necessary to interrupt his reascent in order to carry out a decompression step. The invention relates to a device making it possible for the surface crew responsible for the safety of a deep sea diver to signal to him, without ambiguity, that it is necessary to carry out a decompression step, but also effectively to time the duration of this step, by virtue of a receipt-acknowledgement system with which the device according to the invention is provided. It consists of a multi-stranded electric cable 1 along which are located, at the intervals required by the submersion of the steps, optical beacons 2 actuated from an electronic box 6 at the disposal of the surface crew, making it possible to signal the position of the steps to be carried out to the diver. The device, such as claimed, is furthermore provided with an appended device 11 making it possible for the diver to acknowledge receipt of the signal which has been transmitted to him, and thus to signify without ambiguity to the surface crew his effective presence in immediate proximity to the beacon in question, in order to allow effective timing of the duration of the step. <IMAGE>
