PURPOSE:To automatically adjust a printing position to rules to improve operability and printing quality and at the same time, achieve perfect printing to the last line near the terminal edge of paper to control the wasteful consumption of paper by providing a photosensor at the lower position of a printing head of a carrier. CONSTITUTION:After setting of paper 8 with rules 8a, 8b is set on a platen 2, if a power supply is turned ON, a rule detection processing is performed automatically following the execution of an initial processing. Then the rule 8a is automatically adjusted to assume a position opposed to the position of a photosensor 22 which is a specified reference position. In addition, a rule detection processing routine is executed each time every two lines of data are printed. Therefore, if a slip in the feeding of paper 8 occurs halfway through printing, the slip is automatically corrected. Consequently, data is always printed at a correct position, so that no characters are overprinted on the rules. This allows the best printing quality to be maintained. When the end of the paper is detected, data is printed at a position near the terminal edge of the paper 8 in a correctly controlled relationship of printing lines, and thus the wasteful consumption of the paper 8 is controlled. |
