An apparatus for the crushing of clods and/or lumps and compression for the preparation of soil is described. The apparatus is constructed on a load-bearing chassis 15, which can be angularly oriented in relation to the drive shaft in the apparatus and in which at least two parallel helicoidal elements 1, 2 are rotatably fitted, at least one of which rolls on the soil, the said helicoidal elements with identical or different diameters each having a pitch and diameter, which is such that when they are in combined rotation the screw blade 9 in one element remains in close contact with the screw blade 10 in the second element or the other elements, each helicoidal element being in a positive drive mechanical connection with each of the other elements. The positive drive connection is achieved by means of endless chains, which pass over pinions fitted at the ends of the rotary shafts 7, 8 in each helicoidal element, and in which pinions the number of teeth is dependent on the pitch and the diameter of the screw blade in each of the connected helicoidal elements. <IMAGE>
