Apparatus for producing chipboards, having a litter underlay, over which there is arranged a spreading machine for wood chips mixed with binder. Means for moving the litter underlay, with a chip mat spread on top, into a heated press are provided. Also provided is a spreading machine for wood fibres, which is arranged ahead of or after the spreading machine for wood chips above the litter underlay and spreads wood fibres mixed with binder onto the litter underlay or onto the wood-chip mat lying on the litter underlay. Such an apparatus can be used to produce chipboards which have on one side or on both sides wood-fibre layers which have a smooth, coatable outer surface and, in addition, increase the bending strength of the chipboard. <IMAGE>
