The control of crystal growth rate, filterability and dewaterability of flue gas gypsum from wet flue gas desulphurisation plants in which coarse-grained flue gas gypsum is removed from the system via a hydrocyclone is carried out by removing at least some of the finer-grained solid particles from the suspension of the hydrocyclone overflow constantly or at intervals and recycling only the remaining aqueous phase of the suspension to the system.
