Uniform release of the segments of a discarding sabot from a projectile, particularly in the case of discarding sabots having a small front air pocket or no front air pocket, is achieved in that an intermediate space, which is sealed externally at least at the front, is formed between the projectile outer wall and the discarding-sabot inner wall, into which intermediate space propellant-charge gases can be introduced which act during firing on a gas-pressure absorbing surface (7) of the discarding sabot (1a, 1b). <IMAGE>
