The device makes it possible to represent in particular information items which are to be learned in a sensory manner and provides blind people with an alternative to the known Braille system. The device consists of a transmitter and, controlled by it, stimulus-triggering elements which can be attached to the body of the user. The stimulus-triggering elements stimulate at different points of the body of the user by converting signals, which are controlled by the transmitter, in a mechanical manner into stimuli which can be perceived by the user in a sensory manner or by converting the control signals into electrical current pulses which can be perceived in a sensory manner. A computer which stores data, a magnetic tape which stores data, and a device which can be continuously operated by the human being can act as transmitter. The user of the device can identify coded information items, one character after the other, by distinguishing between the stimulated points and by assigning to each of these or to a combination of a plurality of these a specific sign (for example a letter) in accordance with a known code.
