It is the object of the invention to indicate a method which essentially surpasses the known physical, chemical and electrochemical methods for oxygen removal. This object is achieved if the dissolved oxygen is reduced at the cathode surface of an electrolysis system (1, 1'...8, 8') fed with external power, simultaneously cations with polyvalent metals are generated at the anode (3, 3') of the electrolysis system in an oxidation state which is beneath the highest oxidation state and the undissolved reaction products formed are separated off through apparatuses (8, 8'). The advantages in comparison with the physical methods are a considerably less complex apparatus and an energy-saving with respect to the chemical arrangements, in the avoidance of a continuous addition of chemicals and the advantage with respect to the electrochemical processes is a very decisively improved removal of oxygen.
