1,268,851. Catalysts. OLIN CORP. 11 Aug., 1969 [3 Sept., 1968], No. 40113/69. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C2] A catalyst comprises a mixture of or a complex of nickel iodide and a Lewis base, preferably a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring containing one or two nitrogen atoms and at least two double bonds. They are prepared by refluxing nickel iodide and the Lewis base together until a solid product is formed. Specified Lewis bases include substituted and unsubstituted pyrroles, imidazoles, pyrazoles, indoles, isobenzazbles, carbazoles, pyridines, quinolines, isoquinolines, condensed quinolines, quinoxalines and pyridazines. Preferred complexes are diiodobis (pyridine) nickel, diiodobis (quinoline) nickel and diiodobis(isoquinoline) nickel. The catalysts may be self-supported or supported on the usual carriers. Oxides of V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo and W may also be present. They are suitable for use in the conversion of organic nitro compounds to organic isocyanates. |
