In order to mark blanks, which are cut, under the control of a computer, from a web of film by means of a cutting tool which is mounted on a movable mounting, the said marking process to be carried out before the blanks are cut from the web of film, notches are cut into the web material adjacent to the blank in question by means of an auxiliary tool which is arranged on the mounting, in order to mark the blank.
