<p>Method of submerged arc welding utilises two perpendicular electrodes in tandem separated by a distance of pref. 25 to 50 mm at the electrode tips. The leading electrode is connected to an A.C., and the second electrode to a D.C. current generator. Plates up to 200 mm thickness may be successfully welded without ferromagnetic interference from the plate edges. Thus there is a reduction in root and side wall defects, and less slag entrapment occurs.</p> |
