PURPOSE:To smoothly operate a sol filtering process at a low cost and to improve quality and productivity by preparing sol having prescribed surface tension with alkyl silicate, etc., converting the sol into gel and subjecting the gel to drying and heat treatment such as sintering. CONSTITUTION:Sol having 50dyn/cm<2> surface tension is prepd. with alkyl silicate or fine silica particles as principal starting material. The prepd. sol is filtered and converted into gel. This gel is dried, heated to about 800 deg.C in an O2-N2 atmosphere or the like and sintered at about 1,350 deg.C in an He atmosphere or the like to produce glass. |
