PURPOSE: To effectively utilize a high speed search function provided in DAT by setting plural kinds of data unit bodies having an independent recording length and detecting the number of these unit bodies. CONSTITUTION: In a rotary head type digital audio tape recorder(DAT) format, two inclined tracks TA, TB are formed from under the magnetic tape while the heads A, B turn once, so that one frame is constituted. In the frame, 34 blocks at both ends become sub-sections, while 128 blocks in the center the main sections. In each of these sections, plural kinds of unit bodies are set consisting of plural frames, recording, in the second section of the frame constituting the unit bodies with a trailing end, the number of the first unit bodies from the starting end of the recording medium and the number of the other unit bodies from the starting end of the recording medium to the trailing end of the first unit bodies, thereby facilitating a high speed search operation. |
