<p>Coloured, esp. moving, pictures or symbols are formed by applying suitably modulated a.c. voltages selectively to the cross points of plane orthogonal systems of electrodes, arranged as a pair of systems parallel to each other, with the space between filled with a mixture of electro-chemically luminescent substances a solvent, and a carrier electrolyte. The set of electrodes is on a transparent sheet the roller on an internally reflecting sheet. As opposed to solid state or gaseous electroluminescent media, graduations of colour e.g. shades or greys can be obtained including those with additive mixing processes.</p> |
