CERAMICS HAVING LOW THERMAL EXPANDABILITY AND PRODUCTION THEREOF

PURPOSE:To obtain ceramics maintaining low thermal expandability and having superior mechanical properties by forming a compounded structure consisting of beta-spodumene and monoclinic or tetragonal zirconia in a specified ratio as the structure of ceramics. CONSTITUTION:This ceramics having low thermal expandability has a compounded structure consisting of beta-spodumene and monoclinic or tetragonal zirconia in 88/12-60/40 weight ratio as the crystal phases of a sintered body. The ceramics can be formed as follows: 60-88wt.% powdery starting material consisting of 90-95wt.% petalite and 10-5wt.% kaolin is mixed with 40-12wt.% zirconia powder, molded and calcined at 1,250-1,350 deg.C in the air.
