Composite textile filament is formed from a core of at least one continuous elastomeric monofilament, and a continuous covering of a polymer foam with closed cells which completely encloses the core, the core being under tension and the foam covering under compression along the lengthwise axis of the composite filament, when this is in a non-stretched condition. As the elastomeric core is completely covered by the polymer foam, any discolouration of the core on ageing is hidden from view. In addition, the covering protects the core from wash-bleaching agents, and other oxidising agents. |
