1309482 Organic isocyanates OLIN CORP 9 April 1970 [16 April 1969] 16959/70 Heading C2C Organic isocyanates are prepared by reacting an organic nitro compound with carbon monoxide at elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of a noble metal based catalyst and adding to the reaction mixture an effective amount of at least one organic carbonate of the formula where R and R<SP>1</SP> each represent an alkyl C 1-18 , cycloalkyl C 3-12 , aryl C 6-12 , alkyl C 1-12 -substituted aryl C 6-12 , fluoro-, chloro- or bromo-substituted aryl C 6-12 radical or of the formula where R<SP>11</SP> is an alkylene C 2-6 , 1,2-cycloalkylene C 5-12 or orth-arylene C 6-10 radical. Examples describe the reaction of 2,4-dinitrotoluene. A large list of starting materials is given including hydroxy, carboxy, cyano, halo, sulphone or thio-substituted nitro compounds. |
