The power unit (8) is on a sloping mounting (16) attached to the fixed blade. The reciprocating blade (2) is supported on discs (5,6) and has a spring return (14). The drive is hydrostatic or via an eccentric. The sloping drive provides two drive component forces; one large force to press the blade into the material being cut, and one cutting force. USE/ADVANTAGE - Simple power unit for agricultural silage cutter or grass cutter.
