In a nozzle 4 for a gas blowing lance used in steel making, having gas openings 5a, 5b, 5c, each lined by a sleeve 6, the nozzle is provided with passages 10 and 11 for the circulation of cooling water, and: the whole of the nozzle except for the sleeves is made of metal of heat conductivity higher than that of the material of the sleeves 6, the latter material having an abrasion resistance higher than that of the metal. The metal used is suitably copper or a copper alloy, and the sleeve material carbon steel, alloy steel, or a cobalt-chromium-tungsten alloy. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), the sleeves 6 extend only part way down the openings from the gas inlet end.</p> |
