PURPOSE:To prepare the title emulsion capable of imparting waterproofness and water repellency to paper and gypsum products, by emulsifying a synthetic hydrocarbon resin (derivative) and wax in water in the presence of a water-soluble high polymer protective colloid. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of (a) 30-80 parts by wt. of a synthetic hydrocarbon resin (derivative) obtained by polymerizing C4-9 cuts boiling in the range of -20- 25 deg.C, produced in naphtha cracking, by the Friedel-Crafts reaction and (b) 95-20 parts by wt. of a wax or higher fatty acid (metallic soap) in melt is preliminarily emulsified in an aqueous solution containing 2-20 parts by wt. of a water-soluble high polymer for protective colloid at 50-200 deg.C by a powerful agitator, and then passed through a colloid mill or a piston high-pressure emulsifier once or more, and emulsified. Polyvinyl alcohol and an alkali salt of styrene-maleic acid copolymer may be cited as the high polymer. |
