The freight hull has an upright cylindrical tank (6) with insulation on its outer circumference and a convex top. The tank is mounted on an insulating base (12) in the hull. A skirt (10) depends from the tank and is connected to the hull. Only the upper part of the skirt is insulated, so that this part may reach the temperature of the tank. The lower part of the skirt is at ambient temp.. The major part of the tank bottom plate can be at a level lower than the uper end of the skirt.
