The invention relates to an apparatus allowing underwater communication by employing light waves. It includes a transmitter consisting of a microphone 1 which, under the action of a sound, modulates the current from a generator 2 and which passes through an electric lamp 3. This modulation is thus transported by the light of the latter up to the receiver which comprises a photocell 4, a generator 5 and a sound restoring earpiece 6. The apparatus is particularly intended for communication between autonomous divers. <IMAGE>
