In a disc brake including brake pads 22 received in openings 14 formed in a support member 12, the outer edge 34 of the lining carrier plate 24 of each pad includes at least one projecting part 54 received in a slot 56 formed in a caliper 36 overhanging the disc 10. A peg 58 projects towards the disc from each part 54. Thus, in the event of the pad 22 sliding between the support member 12 and the disc 10 when the friction lining 26 is totally worn away, the projecting part 54 comes to bear on the edge of the slot 56 creating a torque bringing a peg 58 to bear on the peripheral edge 10c of the disc. The pad is thus prevented from escaping and the driver of the vehicle is warned by the noise generated by the contact between the peg 58 and the disc 10. <IMAGE>
