<p>A melt drag metal strip casting system (10) of the type wherein molten metal (20) is delivered from a supply (18) of the molten metal into contact with a chill surface (14) at a casting station and the chill surface (14) is driven for movement in a path past the casting station at a predetermined linear rate to quench and withdraw a continuous strip (16) of metal from the molten metal supply (18), the strip (16) having a bottom surface adhering to the chill surface and an unsolidified top surface as it is withdrawn from the molten metal supply (18), includes a top roll (80) adjustably mounted above the chill surface (14) and spaced therefrom by a distance substantially equal to the thickness of the strip (16) desired with the top roll (80) in contact with the unsolidified top surface of the strip (16), with the temperature of the top roll surface (90) in contact with the unsolidified top surface of the strip (16) being maintained at a level which will not solidify the top surface of the metal being cast.</p> |
