An electronic marten repelling device comprises one or more strong light sources (6), preferably LEDs, which are actuated at regular or irregular intervals. Effectiveness is ensured by the irregular light flashes of the LEDs (special diodes requiring at least 30 mA operating current) which are of high light-transmitting capacity and have a wide angle of radiation. Energy is supplied via the car battery, the low energy consumption of the LEDs (6) not leading to any adverse effects on the starting motor even when the vehicle or aircraft has been standing for a relatively long time. The martens which are wary of light are thus discouraged from approaching. The invention ensures an extremely effective and also cost-effective solution of the rapidly increasing problem of damage caused by the gnawing of the teeth of martens, which is always associated with high costs.
