An apparatus (10) to measure fabric in extensibility, the apparatus (10) includes a base (11) upon which there is pivotally mounted, for rotation about a horizontal axis, an arm (13), one end of the arm (13), is provided with a clamp (18) which is vertically aligned with a further clamp (12) between which a piece of fabric (31) extends to be placed under tension by the apparatus (10). The apparatus (10) further includes a sensor (34) which detects deflection of the arm (13) to provide an indication of the extension of the piece of fabric (31).
